Reading the bible can be a challenge. Remembering what you read is harder. However, being able to quote scripture in times of trouble can be the difference between victory and defeat.
When faced with doubt, reminding yourself of Psalm 37:25, “ I have been young, but now I am old, and I have never seen the righteous forsaken,” can renew your faith and give you the strength to hold on. When under attack, speaking Isaiah 54:17, “ No weapon formed against me shall prosper,” over your life can erase fears and give you courage.
The Word of God is powerful. Think about it: in the beginning of creation, God said, “Let There Be,” and things came into existence. Even Jesus’s words held the power of God. Demons fled, storms ceased, and many were healed by his words.
Not one promise from God is empty of power. Nothing is impossible with God!
We have the Word of God today at our disposal, allowing us to experience the manifestation of God’s power in our own lives. We have the power to see miraculous signs and wonders today. All we have to do is speak His words over our lives and believe that God will do what he said he would. The people who penned the Bible may be dead, but the WORD itself is not; it is alive.
For the word of God is alive and powerful. Hebrews 4:12
Before we can activate God’s promises, we must first know what they are. The only way to know what we can expect from God is to read what he said. The Bible is the “Bread of Life” that we should consume daily, not just on Sunday listening to our pastor preach. If you were in school and only took math one day a week for an hour and never picked up the math book until you got back to class, how good do you think you would be at math? Probably not very good. That is what we do with God’s word. We treat it like a snack instead of a meal, expecting to use it effectively when trouble comes our way.
The Word of God is a gift given to us so that we can win against the enemy. We should treasure that gift. Hold on to it tightly and never let go of it. In fact, you better hide it where satan can not steal it.
I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
Those who do not hide the Word of God deep in their hearts so that it can take root run the risk of satan coming and stealing it. How does he do that? He causes you to be distracted, so you don't meditate on the word. The next thing you know, you have forgotten what it said. If you can not remember the scripture to help you overcome a challenge, you can not win against satan. The Word of God is a sword and our only offensive weapon against satan and his tricks. We do not rise to the occasion; we sink to the level of our training.
What falls on the beaten path represents those who hear the message, but immediately Satan appears and snatches it from their hearts.
So, how can we meditate on God’s word so that we can call on it when we need to? One of the easiest ways is through song. I bet you only know your ABCs because there is a song attached to it. Songs are sticky. You hear a song on the radio, and for the rest of the day, it is stuck in your head. Use this tool to help you meditate on God’s word, allowing it to sink deep into your heart. I have shared with you a few songs that put scripture to melody. If these are not in the genre you prefer, do some research and find songs that put a tune to the Word. You will find that the more you listen to God’s word like this, the less likely you are to have it stolen from you.
Here is a list of a few songs that sing the Word of God:
Isaiah 54:17 - No weapon that is formed against me shall prosper;
Psalms 27:1 - The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
Psalms 18:3,46 - I will call upon the Lord , who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies. The Lord lives! Blessed be my Rock! Let the God of my salvation be exalted.
Psalm 3:3 - But thou, O LORD , art a shield for me; My glory, and the lifter up of mine head.
Psalm 37:25 - I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.
Psalms 118:24 - This is the day that the Lord has made; I will rejoice and be glad in it.
Song of The Day
Proverbs 3 - “My child, never forget the things I have taught you. Store my commands in your heart. If you do this, you will live many years, and your life will be satisfying. Never let loyalty and kindness leave you! Tie them around your neck as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart. Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. “
